An experimental VR narrative sim satirizing the life of a film school student—developed as Emerson Independent Video’s first VR project
Overview
Film School Simulator is an irreverent satire developed in VR as an interactive narrative depicting the life of a film school student. It was the first VR project produced by Emerson Independent Video.
As the lead writer and lead 2D artist, I developed a large-scale direction for the project, including complex branching narrative structures and character design tailored for stationary VR.
Developed an educational infographic that simplifies complex astrophysics
Achieved recognition for quality, resulting in large-format print display

Creative management
Over 30 college students across various creative disciplines joined the team to bring this project to life. As a co-producer, I was responsible for developing team policies and pipeline management, allocating project finances, and creating organizational documents such as roadmaps, flowcharts, and task sheets.
I led two dedicated teams—writing and 2D art—ensuring both narrative and visual elements aligned with the overall vision of the project.
Covid adaptation
Midway through production, COVID-19 disrupted our timeline. Half of the team departed, and the rest could no longer meet in person. At the vote of the remaining members, my co-producers and I made the difficult choice to pivot: cancel the original plan and develop a smaller-scope version remotely.
The new iteration became a text-based version of the interactive narrative alongside a web-hosted demo featuring our original assets, which could still be experienced in virtual reality.
